ABOUT US
Here at Deans Barn, we’re passionate about the power of beekeeping. Not only to produce delicious honey and protect our environment. But as a way to switch off, relax, reconnect with nature – and transform wellbeing.
Visitors can spend a day at our apiary, immersing themselves in our beautiful natural surroundings, unwinding, and discovering the fascinating world of our hardworking bees. We also sell the honey harvested from our hives.
Nestled in the historic Saxon village of Alfriston, East Sussex, our picturesque setting is teeming with abundant forage for pollinators. Deans Barn is a thriving haven for bees and sits beside our teaching barn, where we serve delicious, homegrown lunches made with produce from our garden. Our visitors – from tourists to school groups and beyond – are welcomed to enjoy the bounty of our land.
OUR BEGINNINGS
Lisa Sherlock, our founder, began keeping bees in her garden in 2017. When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, beekeeping became her refuge and a source of mental clarity during those challenging times.
Recognizing the positive impact beekeeping had on her own mental health and well-being, Lisa became passionate about sharing its benefits with others, particularly young people. This led her to expand her apiary and open the doors to Deans Barn.
With bee populations declining, Deans Barn is committed to raising awareness about the vital role that bees and other pollinators play in our ecosystem. Crops rely on them to transfer pollen and fertilize plants, without these creatures, our biodiversity and food sources are at risk. It's essential that we protect and preserve these incredible pollinators.
